I'm rather late for this one, but I thought I shared with everyone my favorite movies of last year. I'll start with number 9 to my favorite number 1![]()
9. Avatar
Debuted rather late last year, James Cameron's latest masterpiece since Titanic (1997), again the man has once again show what Hollywood is made of, as the latest saying goes "If America can make Avatar, they can make anything"
8. Sherlock Holmes
This one came in even later than the previous, but it's actually my favorite of the 2. Love the acting and storyline all together, great art direction too. Guy Ritchie's first film not to be Rated R in the US.
7. Star Trek
I was one of the few lucky fans who attended the premiere and my impression was "Wow!". The actors were good enough to be like the original and the special effects were cool.
6. UP
Well every year Pixar's animation film always makes it to my top list and UP definitely fits into that list. My friend who watched with me cried within the first 10 minutes of the movie. But to me personally, Wall-E is still my number 1
5. Inglourious Basterds
Although I didn't like Brad Pitts accents in the film, which sounded rather...stupid... nonetheless thumbs up to Tarantino who has been working on the script for the film for almost a decade, and tried to keep as much to the original but added a few twist of his own.
4. Paranormal Activity
Well actually this should be a 2007 film but I'll put this in since it's made available to most of us only in 2009. I'm not a fan of horror movies but this one was made rather good. Even got me trembling for a while.
3. Bad Lieutenant
I know a lot of people disagree with me on this. But seriously got to put this is one of Cage's best acting so far. It's weird yeah, but in a creative way. It might lack the gun shooting, cop VS robber thriller but this ain't robocop, it's a just regular policeman on his bad day.
2. District 9
Christopher Johnson is currently my favorite fictional character so far. I even read his blog sometimes. Realist CG and beautiful story telling had made this movie one of my favorite for the year. It even had 10x lesser budget than G.I Joe
1. Watchmen
Oh yeah! I'm a sucker for 'deep, dark movies' so this one definitely made my list. The anti hero characters are so realistically portrait. beautiful art direction, and it even managed to keep close to the original comic. Rorschach is currently my favorite hero now next to Batman.
