Everyday I pray for god to give me more wisdom, so that I might solve life's problem and look at the world differently. God has obviously blessed her (Yasmin) with a huge amount of wisdom, so that she may deliver it through her movies. Here's an excerpt from her blog I friend of mine found.
(Taken from Jasemaine's blog) "One evening, an old Cherokee told his grandson about a battle that goes on inside people.
He said, "My son, the battle is between two 'wolves' inside us all. One is Evil - It is anger, envy, jealousy, greed, and arrogance. The other is Good - It is peace, love, hope, humility, compassion, and faith."
The grandson thought about this for a while and then asked his grandfather, "Which wolf wins?"
To which the old Cherokee simply replied, "The one you feed."
My respect to you great Yasmin, I'm sure you picked the right one to feed. Thank you once again for everything.
As everyone know by now, Yasmin Ahmad, one of Malaysia's greatest film director has passed away. She has left behind a legacy of great films such as Sepet, Gubra, Mukshin as well as some famous heart warming commercials.
I only met her once in person, and I must seriously thank god for that. How often do you get to meet someone who is not only a famous celebrity, but more importantly someone you respect and look up to from time to time. In fact her movie SEPET was the first local film I ever watched in a Cinema, and ironically Talentime was the last local movie I also saw in the Cinema
It was thanks to her (as well as other indie film makers out there) that inspired not only me, but many other people out there to pursue their dream to make movies and even music in this country, where Creative talent and art is not always appreciated.
I'll still keep her blog link, reading it I learned many things and I can see what she has gone through to become the person she is today.
A press conference was held to promote the Klang Creative Festival happening in Klang Centro, 8th-9th August.
I was honored to be invited, at the same time I was surprised that I actually had to be in front at the desk with the big committees and organizers @_@
Newspaper clipping the next day
I'll be in charge of the indie feature film screening, so once I 100% confirmed everything I'll post schedule and shows that will be showing, till then, peace y'all
A very meaningful weekend just passed. Manage to to hang out with some of my closest buddies and just chatting away through the night. After working in an office for so long I guess I really need a break out of the normal routine.
Saturday night I met up with Ah Wai and Yaw Yee at Sunway. We talked about the both of them getting out of the office and working freelance. I guess even so called stable jobs have their cons. Chatting with them I had a sense of confidence I have lost for so long, makes me want to lead role again and do crazy stuffs.
Sunday night after Cheng Hui's house warming I went to Sunway again to yum cha with Cheng En, Tan Jie and Cheng Li. Again Cheng En and Tan Jie have been freelancing without a norm job for quite some time. It's tough but I'm happy because they are putting their effort to chase their dreams, doing what they want to do. Although many people kinda look down on people like this, but I respect them for their passion and strength to move on. You go guys~
Monday Night was another session in Bangsar with Damian and Izuan. I was so surprised with Izuan told me (I'm not suppose to tell people yet) but I am so happy for Izuan as me and him are both experiencing the same thing, we both can hear destiny calling out to us and it's about time we answer the call. I'm with you Izuan all the way. Oh and thanks for lending the Screenplay book, I'll be sure to read it, haha.
All this while I've been playing safe and not taking any major risk for fear of failing and of course family pressure. For once I just screw it all and get into some real action.
Anyways I finally upload my short film on youtube, you can watch it here, enjoy ^^
Ok first off Thank god I finally finished my short film - Agony, and submitted it to BMW shorties and now just hope for the best. Shout out to all those who helped me especially Palia Wai and Tehping who worked day and night to get the work done. You guys rock lar
Some stills...
Anyways I was in on my way to Johor when I heard the news of Michael Jackson's death, apparently I had no internet connection so I can't do any tribute to him. But still I just wanna say that despite all those negative news, Michael Jackson is still a legend and will always remain as one
But still his not Jesus, so don't get over upset about it like this woman here.
Wow...finally getting my engine started, what's it been like? 2-3 years since I even started doing anything. After much 'encouragement' from my friends all over I finally decided to start doing something.
Well basically this new project of mine entitled agony is something I came out with while brainstorming alone. It's kinda special in a way as it involves animation and live footages. Well not to say it's the first of it's kind but I guess it's a good start for me.
Thanks to the brilliant effort of Charlie Chan Kam Wai and Tehping Lim, we finally got things started, also a special thanks to Miharu for willing to help me out in this.
Well sadly due to the short period of time, I have to be my own camera man
Another special thanks to Ah wai's Manager - Kimo
Ah Wai disagrees with me sometimes
Shooting location is actually ah wai's apartment in puchong
Well the live scenes only take about 40% of the whole thing, the rest is animation being handled by the great Tehping Lim, his a one of a kind genius and hopefully he can safe my ass in this one.
I guess you all know by now, David Carradine, actor and star of the Kill Bill Series (he plays Bill himself) as well as my favorite Kung Fu The legend Continues, was recently found dead in his hotel room in Bangkok while he was there filming his other movies.
I can't say how sad I was when I got the news. I remember being a kid one of my favorite TV series was Kung Fu, The Legend Continues (along side X-files and Quantam Leap). In fact it was this series that inspired me to take up WuShu when I was in school.
I only prayed that his soul may rest in peace, and that I will always remember him for the legend he is.
How many Ferrero Rocher can you eat in one minute? Current world record is 7 in one minute

以前听过一个导演说,电影永远都少不了一样东西。。。 就是爱,或者是缺乏爱 (Love or the lack of it)
(Love or the lack of it), 但我个人觉得这道理对我们的人生是蛮适合的,尤其是我这个天枰座的真的是对爱看的很重 (说明我平时不信星座这种东西的)
Crazy photography stop motion from some crazy Japanese dude. Heard it was even shown on NHK. A serious MUST WATCH for all you aspiring creative people out there.
This goes to show that it's not just about creative ideas in your head but the difficult and hard effort you have to put it to create a masterpiece. This guy earned my respect.
*Thanks to Tan Jie for showing me this video. Really opens my eye (hell, my eye balls almost fell out
I remember the good old days where my brain was flowing with creative juice. I had millions of ideas and interesting stories playing in my head. I had confidence and faith that there is NOTHING I couldn't achieve. Heck, I could conquer the world if I wanted to!
But now, when I come home all I want to do is sleep and rest. Maybe watch a few movies or play some computer games (and facebook). I don't even feel like doing anything else anymore. I can't even think of anything else anymore, except day dreaming.
"To dream anything that you want to dream. That's the beauty of the human mind. To do anything that you want to do. That is the strength of the human will. To trust yourself to test your limits. That is the courage to succeed.”
Guess I need a holiday, I haven't travel in like...8 years? Sure I've been to Langkawi or Melaka or even Kuching but that's just domestic traveling. I really need to go some place totally different and experience the culture there. Then maybe I can have my old juices coming back.
I admit I do need to lose weight though. Wonder if it's all the pork and chicken damaging my brain tissues...(looking for someone to sponsor my gym fees)
Perhaps I should consider moving out...Anyone willing to take me in? (or even better give me your entire apartment unit for free?)
I guess I'm just so tired... I don't know how to enjoy my youth anymore...
A chance to meet with the cast of Talentime and the Director herself, Yasmin Ahmad!
Of course lar stalk them for pictures...
from the left: Mahesh, Han, Pamela, Yasmind Ahmad and Kah Hoe
Usual practice of self enjoyment
Potential cast for Talentime 2 *Yasmin if your reading this, do take note =D
Anyways it's actually an event for a price giving ceremony where gua.com.my, Silkgirl had this online Talentime competition and the winners will be chosen by Yasmind Ahmad herself.
So Congrats to the winners, it's not easy to impress Yasmind Ahmad, so you guys deserve it ;)
Han rates: Hmm.....10/10 (Because it made feel like watching it twice!)
Yasmind Ahmad's latest work (her 6th one I think) Talentime hits the screens. Too bad I didn't get free tickets to watch this >_< But anyways even though I paid for it, I thought it was worth every single penny.
I wouldn't call this film revolutionary or mind blowing, but it's definately a good movie. Yasmind always have this thing of using fresh talents but bringing out the best of them.
Talentime starts of with this school organizing it's 7th Annual Talentime competition. Heading the event is Cikgu Adibah (played by the famous Adibah Noor). As the story goes on it starts to focus on the indivual participants such as Melur and Haifz. It also slowly develops around the relationship of Melur and this Indian guy, Mahesh, whos in charge of fetching her to the rehersals. I won't reveal much as I really think you should watch this one unfold yourself.
It's beautiful movie. And I'm glad she's focusing on the Muhibah-thing (maybe abit too much) but I guess this country wouldn't mind a little bit more love. Pete Teoh does more of the music score for this film, which provides it a unique feel compare to Yasmin's previous movies who weren't really music heavy.
plus Pamela looks sweet :D Ok... maybe not in this pic, but do check her out in the movie :D
And the jokes were pretty good. Thanks to Harith Iskandar and the "Gay" teachers, haha...Seriously I think I enjoyed this more then Confession of A Shopaholic =P
After years of waiting, Les' Copaque Production finally released ‘GENG’, Malaysia’s first animated Feature film. I somehow managed to sneak in to catch the media screening of the movie one month before its official release.
Many years ago I was skeptical as to how this movie would turn out; being a victim of countless disappointments watching Malaysia made movies which includes “special effects”. I doubted that this new company started out by a bunch of youngsters from my University (MMU) could do any better, even if they hired some of the top film and animations students from MMU.
For once, I was happy to be proven wrong.
Well it’s not fair to compare it to the likes of WALL-E or Finding Nemo. But seriously this movie a definite must watch. It’s entertaining (in a Malaysian way) and quite meaningful. Although you will notice a lot of scenes were spoof from other famous movies (I counted roughly around 5 movie spoofs) but at least they got the formula right.
Simple storyline: Badrol and his friend Lim returns to the kampung (village) only to find the village being hunted by a mysterious Durian ghost. Thus the duo gang up with the other village members UPIN and IPIN (the lovable twins), Kak Ros (village beauty) and Rajoo (Indian kid which talks to animals). Together they uncover the mystery behind the Durian Ghost and what is really going on.
Former students of MMU, especially those from my batch (2006 Graduates) will find a lot of familiar characters and elements. Technical wise it’s not perfect but the hard work and effort that the team put in is definitely worth a standing ovation. Characters were actually very unique that audience will still remember them after the show is over. My favorite of course being Upin & Ipin, the super cute and lovable twins. Rajoo is also another favorite due to his animal talking abilities. I must admit the main character. Bardol, was rather normal. But no matter as the others was good enough to cover it.
GENG opens officially in cinemas 12 Feb 2009. Be sure to go and watch. Bring along your family as it is heartwarming and surely a perfect enjoyment for the whole family.
Well 2008 was quite a movie year for me, I probaly watched more movie in 2008 then I did in any other year. So here's my favourite 5 (in no particular order)
The Dark Knight
Let’s start with The Dark Knight. Whoever says that The Mummy 3 is better than this movie should honestly die so Heath Ledger can torture you as the joker. People who say it’s boring have been watching too much cartoon and should learn how to GROW UP. I loved every single dialogue in the movie and I was also impressed with Aaron Eckhart portrayal of Harvey Dent a.k.a 2 Face. This is truly Batman for adults, unlike Batman forever which was catered for 15 years and below.
Be Kind Rewind
Be Kind Rewind totally rocks. Another intelligent comedy that had my mind blasting (quote from Russell Peter) since Bowfinger. What else could expect from Michel Gondry, who also did Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (which was of course one of my favorite movies). Jack Black was pretty good but I preferred Mos Def who played Mike, the loyal, nice black guy who devotes his duty to protecting the Movie shop. Seriously must watch, unless you’re a retard who prefers Disaster Movie or Meet the Spartans
Wall-E
Soooooooo Cuuuuuuuuuuuttttttttttteeeeeee. Nuff said. Wall-E’s feelings all expressed only through his cute binoculars eyes (and his cute robotic sound). Pixar has indeed created magic once again since the old Disney Classics. If anyone tell me this movie sucks possibly has no soul and no heart.
Ip-Man 叶问
I have non-Chinese friends who have watched this movie 3 times in the cinema. So yeah, that basically sums out how good this movie is. Donnie Yen portrayal of the Wing-Chun 永春 was classic. Fast yet graceful and deadly, Wing Chun has since been Google top searched item with people looking for places to learn it. The story line itself was pretty simple and straight forward but the scenes where powerful enough to captivate you in the moment. Much better then Dragon Tiger Gate 龙虎门 in my opinion.
Australia
Ok, I’ve been getting mixed reviews from this one. People either hate it or love it. I personally enjoyed it. 3 hour length I was entertained 90% of the time. Nicole Kidman combined with Hugh Jackman was a totally new chemistry all together. I find the story concept very, very similar to Pearl Harbor but this is way much better. More powerful, more moving and less boring. If you think this movie sucks then good for you, I enjoyed it, so shut up.
To prove my point of how good it is compare to pearl harbor, watch the youtube clip below.
Was at PWTC today for Youth09 Event. And also the re-launch of www.gua.com.my with the new look.
By the way this is also the reason why I went botak, haha. Boss decided that since the website is going to have a new look, so should the stuff. So in the end those man enough went to get a haircut (The rest have no balls)
The Rockers
Meet ma man, Joe Flizzow
